The tired-parent struggle is real
If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re as tired as I once was. I remember those endless nights when my little one just wouldn’t settle. I tried everything — white noise, co-sleeping (in the next to me), patting, gentle music, pacing the floor at 3am — and still, sleep felt impossible. My little girl was waking so often I felt like a complete zombie.
It was only when I said to my husband that I just couldn’t continue like this anymore, I was needing to return to work and know I wouldn’t have been able to focus on anything (I struggled already in the daytime without having to use my brain for work too). So this is when we decided to change things.
That’s when I started using baby reflexology for sleep. As a qualified and experienced reflexologist I really don’t know why I didn’t start using it consistently sooner (I blame the sleep deprivation postpartum mum brain). It was just something soothing I could do — for my baby, and honestly, for myself, and it was a game changer!
Why reflexology can help with sleep
The research is really encouraging: reflexology has been shown to help babies sleep more deeply and for longer periods. From my own experience, I’ve seen how a few minutes of gentle foot reflexology (at anytime of the day) helps my baby’s whole body relax and her sleep was SO much better.
It seems to help because it:
• It can help release tension, boosts relaxation, and improve mood & wellbeing
• Encourages the release of “rest hormones” like melatonin and oxytocin
• Signals to your baby that it’s time to wind down
• Helps parents slow down too (and our babies definitely pick up on that calm energy)
A bedtime routine that feels good
What worked best for us was weaving reflexology into the day whenever I could, because let’s face it, life is busy with a baby. You could try to use it after a warm bath, just before a feed, or while cuddling. I have even been known to give reflexology in the car (I was a passenger sat next to her), on the sofa and on a plane.
It didn’t need to be long; a few minutes of calm, consistent touch worked wonders.
What I noticed as a parent
Sometimes my baby settled almost instantly; other times, she still woke a few times that night but she definitely woke up less often and sometimes maybe only once a month (which was a massive improvement to waking every 2 hours).
I always noticed she relaxed faster, and I felt calmer too. That was huge for me — because when you’re calmer, bedtime feels less like a battle.
👉 That’s why I created my Supporting Sleep Reflexology Video Guide — to share the exact routine I used with my own baby. Parents tell me it’s become one of their favourite parts of the evening, even if sleep isn’t “perfect.” [but better than it was].
Final thoughts
Sleep with babies is never straightforward (oh, how I wish it were!). But adding reflexology into your day can transform bedtime and the whole night into a calmer, more restful time — for your baby, and for you.
