Teething: one of the toughest phases

It is SO hard when you have a baby who is teething, all you want to do is give them some relief from that horrible pain. Red cheeks, constant dribbling, hands in the mouth, chewing everything, sleepless nights, and that heartbreaking cry are something I will remember forever!

As parents, we want to do anything we can to make it easier. There are plenty of teething toys, powders, and remedies out there, but sometimes, despite all of that, nothing seems to work for long.

That’s when many parents start looking for natural comfort tools they can use themselves, things that feel safe, soothing, and supportive. I did this too, and realised reflexology helped my little girl!

My experience with reflexology and teething

When my little girl was teething, I wanted to calm her, but nothing I tried seemed to make much difference. Out of instinct, I started using the reflexology techniques but particularly on her mouth & teeth reflex areas and it made a real difference to her!

Was it the distraction? Was it the reflexology itself? I honestly don’t know for sure. But what I do know is that it often stopped her from crying and gave us both a much-needed breather. Sometimes, that’s all you want as a parent, for your baby to seem to have even just a few minutes of calm.

Why reflexology can be a comfort tool

Reflexology isn’t about fixing teething pain, but many parents (myself included) find it helpful during those difficult days. Here’s why:

• It encourages relaxation. Gentle touch can help babies feel calmer, even if they’re unsettled.
• It reduces tension in the body. When babies are distressed, they often hold tension; reflexology supports release.
• It helps boost those feel-good hormones. The same hormones that make us feel safe and happy are encouraged through nurturing touch.
• It creates a focus and distraction. Sometimes simply shifting your baby’s attention away from discomfort makes all the difference.

At its heart, reflexology gives you a purposeful way to comfort them, and be present with them, which is often exactly what they need most. (Don’t get me wrong – we need our wonderful western medicine and painkillers too!)

The routine parents kept asking me for

After sharing how I used reflexology during my little girl’s teething journey, so many parents asked me: “Can you show me exactly what you did?”

That’s why I created my Teething Reflexology Video Guide. It’s the exact short routine I used with my daughter, broken down into simple, easy-to-follow steps. You don’t need to be an expert — you just need your hands, a few minutes, and the willingness to try.

And even if it doesn’t magically make teething disappear, it offers comfort, distraction, and bonding in a time when you both really need it.

Turning teething troubles into bonding time

One of the things I noticed most during teething was how reflexology changed my mindset as well. Instead of feeling helpless and stressed, I felt like I had something gentle and nurturing to offer.

That makes all of the difference (or it did to me anyway) Even if the crying starts again later, you’ll have given your baby a pocket of calm in the storm.

Practical ways to use reflexology during teething

The beauty of reflexology is that it doesn’t take much time, space, or preparation. I personally used it each time I could tell her teeth were bothering her.

You can try it:

• During a fussy afternoon when toys aren’t distracting and nothing else seems to settle them
• Before naps or bedtime to support relaxation and set the scene for rest
• While holding your baby in your lap — you don’t need oils, just your hands and their little feet

My Teething Reflexology Video Guide walks you through the exact steps you can weave into these moments. It’s short, parent-friendly, and you can rewatch it as often as you need.

A gentle reminder for parents

Every baby is different, and every teething journey is unique. Reflexology isn’t a cure, but it is a tool, one that many parents find supportive for comfort, bonding, and wellbeing, I know I certainly did!

And sometimes, that’s enough. Because parenting isn’t about fixing every challenge instantly. It’s about showing up, holding space, and finding small ways to make hard moments easier.

Final thoughts

Teething can feel relentless, but you don’t have to go through it without support. Reflexology gave me a way to comfort my little girl when nothing else seemed to work, and it’s a gift I love sharing with other parents.

If you’d like to learn the same routine I used, my Teething Reflexology Video Guide is ready for you. It’s simple, gentle, and designed for tired parents who just need something to try in the middle of those tough days.
